To ship a car from IAA, pay the invoice in full, then book a licensed transporter with the car's stock number, your IAA buyer number and the release PIN from your IAA account. IAA staff load the car at the branch. IAA gives you only a few business days after the sale to pay and collect before storage starts, so book transport the day you win.
Price depends mainly on distance, vehicle size and whether the car runs. Recent DispatchAuction moves include $350 from IAA Tucson to Long Beach and $360 from IAA Miami to Savannah.
How do you ship a car from IAA?
- Price the transport before you bid. Pick IAA in our calculator and enter the stock number. You'll see the delivered cost while the auction is still live.
- Win and pay IAA in full. IAA won't release a car with any balance outstanding, including late fees or storage. Wire transfers usually clear fastest.
- Book transport the same day. You can order with us before payment clears, so a driver is lined up when it does.
- Send us the release details. Once the car is paid, the pickup PIN or release appears in your IAA account. Send it by email or WhatsApp with your buyer number.
- Pickup. IAA staff bring the car to the loading area and load it. The driver inspects it and records existing damage.
- Delivery. The car goes to your warehouse, shop or home, and your dashboard shows every status along the way.
Is an IAA stock number the same as a lot number?
Close, but not quite. IAA identifies each vehicle by a stock number, shown on the vehicle page and your invoice. The "lot" at IAA is the car's position in a particular sale. When a transporter or our calculator asks for the IAA number, give the stock number. Copart, by contrast, uses a lot number for both.
How much does it cost to ship a car from IAA?
Like any auction car, an IAA move is priced by lane: what carriers accept to drive that route that week, adjusted for the car's size and condition. Recent DispatchAuction orders from IAA:
| From | To | Vehicle | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| IAA Tucson, AZ | Long Beach, CA | 2019 Kia Optima | $350 |
| IAA Miami, FL | Savannah, GA | 2020 Kia Optima | $360 |
Recent DispatchAuction orders. Your price depends on your lane and car, so check it with the lot number.
The main price drivers are distance, how busy the lane is, vehicle size, whether the car runs, and whether the branch is in a city or a rural area. Delivery into an ocean port terminal needs a TWIC-carded driver and adds a $150 fee.
Pick IAA, enter the stock number and choose where it's going.
What does a driver need to pick up a car from IAA?
- The stock number of the car.
- Your IAA buyer number. Branches routinely ask for both numbers together.
- The release PIN or gate pass from your IAA account, which appears once the car is fully paid.
- Arrival inside loading hours. Branches stop loading before closing time, so a late driver can lose a day.
The title is a separate matter. IAA usually mails it to the buyer or makes it available through your account, and it is often not in the car. Your driver doesn't need it to collect the car, but you will need it to register or export the car.
How long does IAA car shipping take?
Collection depends on how fast the payment clears, when we receive the release details, and the branch's schedule. Once loaded, these are typical drive times:
| Distance | Typical time on the truck |
|---|---|
| Up to 500 miles | 1 to 2 days |
| 501 to 1,000 miles | 2 to 5 days |
| 1,001 to 1,500 miles | 3 to 6 days |
| 1,501 to 2,000 miles | 4 to 7 days |
| 2,001 to 2,500 miles | 5 to 8 days |
| Over 2,500 miles | 6 to 9 days |
Averages once the car is picked up. Weather, yard queues and the carrier's other stops can move them.
How long do you have to pick up a car from IAA?
IAA gives buyers a short window after the sale, usually a few business days, to pay and collect before daily storage starts. Some branches set tighter deadlines than others. The exact deadline and daily rate for your car are on your IAA invoice and the branch page, so check them the day you win.
Two things catch buyers out. First, the clock runs from the sale, not from when your payment clears. Second, storage keeps counting until the car leaves the branch, so a paid car that sits still costs money every day.
If we haven't picked up your car within 5 business days, we pay the auction storage charged for every day after that until pickup. The 5 business days start on the latest of three dates: the day you order with us, the day your auction balance reaches $0, and the day you send us the gate pass PIN (where the auction uses one). It doesn't apply to weather events, sublot or off-site cars, auctions that are hard to reach such as rural yards, delays the auction causes, or wrong lot or gate pass details. Send us the auction invoice within 30 days of pickup and we reimburse it. Full wording is in section 7 of our Terms.
Can you ship a non-running or off-site IAA car?
Yes. IAA loads cars that don't run at the branch, so the pickup is routine. At delivery the truck needs a winch, or the warehouse needs a forklift. Tick "The car doesn't run" in the calculator and the price includes it. Read more in shipping a non-running car.
Some IAA vehicles are stored off-site rather than at the branch on the listing. If your release says the car is at another address, tell us when you book so the driver goes to the right place first time.
Should you use IAA Transport or an independent broker?
IAA offers its own delivery service, IAA Transport, at checkout. You don't have to use it: any licensed transporter can collect a paid car with the right release details. Compare the delivered price, how quickly the car will leave the branch, where it can be delivered, and who pays storage if pickup runs late.
DispatchAuction is a service of Royal Port Logistics (USDOT 3032619, MC 40242), a licensed broker that has moved Copart and IAA cars for over ten years. Most of our IAA customers export, so we deliver to the main export warehouse areas every day. See exporting a car from the USA for the paperwork side.
